Fantastic win at Surrey Advertiser Ladies' League
Surrey Advertiser Ladies' League Semi-final and Final - Holloway Hill Bowling Club, Godalming
Throughout the season 12 of our Dorking ladies played a home and away match against the other 5 clubs in Zone 1 and came out top. On Sunday the Dorking Ladies team consisting of Mary Mitchell, Barbara Skilton, Vicky Goddard and Marilyn Macklin went over to Holloway Hill BC to meet the winners of Zones 2 and 3. They were drawn against the Ladies from Mytchett B C. From the start Dorking took command of the game our girls were on a mission and although the Mytchett team put up a good fight they couldn’t make an impression on our girls. The final score being 21-9.
A lunch break time for a picnic and the powdering of noses etc. and they were ready for the Final. They were to play the winners of the other Semi who were the Ladies from Cranleigh B C. The supporters were on edge as they looked a much stronger team and played well but our girls were not going to be beaten taking the lead from the start and whatever Cranleigh girls did ours did better. Dorking won 23-8.
Congratulations to the team and the rest of the 12 strong squad who played in the matches throughout the Competition to win the league. The presentation of the cup came after a lovely tea provided by Holloway Hill B C.
Vicky accepted the cup on behalf of the team and thanked Holloway Hill for their hospitality. Thanks must also go to the supporters who came to watch and were treated to a day of excellent bowling and a bonus of sunshine.
