110th Anniversary

110th Anniversary match against a Surrey select team.

First of all many congratulations must go to Alan Marsh, Vicky Goddard and John Stenton on their magnificent win on Sunday scoring 22 points against Surrey’s 12 . The opposition didn’t stand a chance as our team took the lead from the start and never gave way. Despite their best efforts the other teams didn’t fare so well. However from the laughter and banter I could hear all enjoyed the afternoon. One of our newer players remarked on how much they had learnt not only by playing but by observing the play of the more experienced Surrey players. The Lady President Linda Pillman welcomed the fact that we had included new players and said she wished it was a more general practice in friendly matches as it was such a good experience.

After the game everyone sat down to a cream tea prepared by Marian ably assisted by Pat and Ted (who was also our reserve and was dressed ready to step in). Captain Peter welcomed the Men’s President Martin Harbottle and the Lady President Linda Pillman who looked very resplendent in their chains of office along with other dignitaries. Peter also read a speech prepared by our President Neil Cooper who through injury was unable to attend. It all went without a hiccup apart from the maths. If we have reached 110 when were we formed?

The green looked fantastic and played well so thank you GKT for all your efforts. Thanks also to Sonia, Eric and David who spent the morning putting up the bunting and flags. Also thanks to John Byrne for preparing the green. It all looked really smart as did the ladies who modelled their newly designed club shirts for the first time. Last but not least a big thank you to Eric for once more manning the bar.
