Another Successful Open Day - 2024
The rain held off and we had a dry albeit chilly Open Day on Saturday. Dorking has always attracted a large group of new bowlers interested in learning the game and also to socialise with like-minded people. This year was no exception and we had 30 turn up on the day and some more expected on Monday evening - when the coaching starts. Remarks heard during and after were all positive
- 'what a lovely green',' very welcoming', 'learnt a lot', 'didn't realise how much goes on here', 'well organised', 'looking forward to coming again', lovely clubhouse'.
This year was organised by Mike and Wendy - who are fairly new members themselves - and what a great job they did with advertising and rallying the volunteers. (the incentive was a bacon sandwich before the start - thanks Marian and Pat). Thanks also to our great team of coaches - Chris, Vicky, David, Ray and Mike - who have given up their time not only to gain certification, but also to volunteer their time to take newbies through the rules and etiquette on the next few Monday evenings.
The Dorking volunteers were well drilled in 'car parking', 'meet and greet', 'registration', 'allocation' before even introduction to their coaches. There were also Bowl collectors and maning of the bar necessary - so thanks to all.
Coffees and teas were available to warm up after the coaching introduction, although a few resorted to the bar instead .
A fantastic morning.
