Celebrating Coronation Day

The King would have been proud of us .... 12 Triple 'teams' playing fun bowls to commemorate the Coronation of Charles III on a sometimes chilly afternoon.  Many members turned up in their finest wear and some in their fancy wear.  This started the afternoon off well with many comments made on the outfits (please do see the photos below to form your own opinions).

We started with PIMMs O'Clock at 1 to fortify us against the chill with a few nibbles to keep us going.  Then Vicky explained the fun games that we would be playing on each of the six rinks - 3 target bullseye (10,5,4,3,2,1) bowls, 1 target markers (4,3,2,1), 1 wrong hand bowling and 1 last bowl jack - 4 ends for each rink.  The target rinks were scored individually with last bowl jack and wrong hand team score used.  The wrong hand game proved to be the hardest for most - with some bowls ending up on the wrong rink or just a few metres away - but most improved by the fourth end.  Some definite team tactics were used in the last bowl jack - but as this was done blind, it didn't really make much difference frown.  Several people manged to hit all four markers with one delivery (straight and fast) and scored 10 - this rink probably produced the highest individual scores.  Bullseye had varying results ...... going first, you think you had scored on the target only to be knocked off by subsequent players - although you could also be knocked onto the target if you were in front !!!

Peter R announced the winner (John Stenton) with a magnificent score of 91.  I think I can claim some assists as there was at least two occasions that I knocked his wood onto the TEN in the bullseye target wink

So thanks again to Marilyn, Vicky and Sonia for organising the day and of course to Eric and team (lot of cutting up fruit!!) for the PIMMs.  Probably more to thank - so sorry if I missed you out.

Then back into the warmth of the Clubhouse for a lovely Cream Tea (thank you Marian and Pat again).  It was another full house with all 36 players plus another dozen or so spectators enjoying the food and chat.
