2025 Season - week 9 results

The week started badly with our home GTL match against Stoke Park being forfeit as, due to internal mis-communication, we were embarrassingly one player short. League rules mean that all points were lost. Some stayed and played a friendly match. Hopefully lessons were learned.
The NDL match against Chipstead followed with a win on one rink but an overall loss, which drops us further down the league table to 11th. The ESL Top 11 match away at Purley Bury did little to cheer us up, as we lost all 5 games. By Thursday the weather was really hot in the afternoons and the away NDL match at Purley Bury was sensibly postponed and will be played August 15th.
Thursday evening brought better fortune for the men in the Border League, with a solid home win against Reigate Priory, winning on 2 rinks and drawing on the third. We are now at least third in that league. Friday was also good for the Ladies with a win in the Surrey Ad away at Cobham.
Saturday morning brought division one leading Cheam to Dorking for the Men's National Top Club competition. Mike quickly won the singles and Nick followed with a win in the 2-woods. Kevin and Ray came so close to a win in the pairs; tied after 17 ends and a close measure for shot on the last end - but it was Cheam's shot. Unfortunately the triples and fours teams could not keep it close and so we went down to a 2-3 loss overall. No shame losing to the top team in division one, and in the last few weeks we beat two other division one teams in the Top 11 format - Shirley Park and Cheam Fields. So credit to all those that played.
Finally, well done to Mike, who won his Surrey singles match at Old Coulsdon and will play the next round at home on Friday evening. The Dorking battle of the Surrey triples saw Nick, Mike, and Trevor come out ahead of Brian, Graham, and Dan in a well fought game. The winners travel to Chipstead on Tuesday. Unfortunately Richard W. and Peter R.'s excellent run in the Surrey pairs came to an end this week.
