2026 Season - Week 5 Results
The week started well for the old codgers again, with a win and a draw at Stoke Park giving us 5 out of 6 points and keeping us top of the league.
This was followed by two successful mixed friendlies - first an overall win against local rivals Pippbrook and then a friendly overall draw against Horsham Park.
The weather, having been fair all week, turned gradually hotter. It was a very hot day for the men in the ESL at Horley, and although playing three good games, we left with nil point. Thanks do go to Bob Tyler, Richard Sawle, and Ted Robinson for stepping in at the last minute - and bowling well.
On Sunday we, for the first time in recent years at least, entered the Bowls England Tony Allcock Trophy with two mixed teams of over 60's. Fortunately, we played in the morning but it was still hot. Our opponents were a strong team from Old Coulsdon that had made it to the Leamington final a couple of years ago. We played well and were in it for some time, but their expertise was enough to pull away and take the win. Hopefully, those that played enjoyed the experience enough to want to try again next year.
It was an unfortunate slip on the mat for the AAA team in the Surrey triples, as Al Hislop pulled his calf and the team had to withdraw at Redhill after 4 ends. They had reached round 4 so well done still to Andrea Florio, Al Hislop, and Alan Wall. Al Hislop's accident also took him out of the Unbadged Singles after a good win at Brockham and likewise out of the BE Foundation Pairs with Mike.
In the Men's Champion-of-champions Kevin Moutrie had a good win and is now through to round 3. In the Surrey 2-woods, Trevor T. progressed to the next round. In the Officers Bowl, Ray Smith progressed without bowling a bowl but Kevin Moutrie decided to withdraw from his match. Likewise Wendy and Mike Vergien withdrew from their BE family pairs.
