2024 Club Triples
Sunday 11th August was the Club Mixed Triples Competition and the list to play (only 42 places) was filled within a day three weeks ago - so we had to have a reserve list which had several hopefuls on standby. As it turned out, some reserves were drafted in for various reasons and a slight rejig of the teams was necessary to make 14 evenly experienced triple teams. We had four round robin games (4 ends each) over a very hot afternoon. The teams were very evenly matched with some very close ends. There were water points around the green and we also took a 15 min break between second and third games - we want a fun social day but were also conscious of being safe and sensible. Trevor (huge thanks for organising the day) then used a special formula (last used by NASA to calculate the moon landing 
) to find the top two teams to play another 4 ends. All matches had been played in good spirits and the edge of the green was crowded with the other teams spectating for the final (despite the heat - but we had cool beers in hand that helped .....). The well deserved winners were Mike V, Carol H and Sheila B (they had also won all four of their round robin games) with David Mac, Paula S and Marian J as great runners-up.
Then it was back into the relative cool of the clubhouse for a buffet and (even more) cold drinks. Thanks to Eric and team for manning the bar. It was a 'bring-a-plate' buffet and it just shows how generous members are (or just that we have large appetities) - it was varied and plenty to go around with even some having to be thrown away (tragic). Thanks to Pat, Marian and team for collation, collection, clearing and cleaning. Trevor presented the trophies and thanked everyone for making it a fantastic day.
