2026 Opening Drive 19 April
Sunday was the beginning of the season with the Opening Drive and Ray even organised great weather.
We started at 1pm with a ploughmans lunch in the Clubhouse with a lovely glass of wine. It was quite packed with all the players and spectators and some extra people who turned up after misreading the emailed instructions ..... but we managed to give some of them a game and food. Then it was out on to the lovingly maintained green.
First action was raising the flag for the new season by Barbara our president. Then it was onto the spider competition where I played the only good bowl of the afternoon and won 
.
We had all 7 rinks in use for the triples with a mini' round robin' competition - 3 * 6 ends. Scores were totalled for all 18 ends and the winers were: Jan, Ted and Diane
Back in the Clubhouse, we enjoyed some nibbles and a drink before the announcement of the winners, thanks to the volunteers who made the day possible - especially Marian and Pat for preparing and setting out the ploughmans - and then onto the raffle. Some confusion at the start about who hadn't received their tickets ..... but a good result as I won a bottle of wine !!
A fantastic start to the bowling season - some frustration on bowls going astray - but great fun to be out in the sunshine with good friends. Really looking forward to the coming months.
